SAN DIEGO — The PGA Tour’s third stop of the season is here.
While Scottie Scheffler isn’t in the field this week after his latest historic win, all of the attention, at least early on, will be on another former top-ranked golfer in the world at Torrey Pines.
Brooks Koepka is set to make his official return to the PGA Tour this week after leaving LIV Golf, a decision he repeatedly credited to wanting to spend more time with his family. He is now the first golfer to take advantage of the Tour’s new “Returning Member’s Program,” something that was created to allow a pathway back for Koepka and a few others.
Koepka has won nine times on the Tour in his career, and he has five major championship titles to his name. But he hasn’t played in a Tour event since 2022, and he missed the cut in three of his last four major starts. He’s only finished inside the top 20 in a major once since 2023, too.
But starting from the bottom, he said, is “the fun part” of his return.
“I guess it’s a fresh start for me, which is cool. It’s just another chapter, I guess, in my book,” he said. “I feel like my game’s in pretty good shape and I want to see where it’s at.”
Xander Schauffele is perhaps the other biggest name in the field this week. The San Diego-area native, who is at No. 5 in the Official World Golf Rankings, is making his season debut. Ludvig Åberg, Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa, J.J. Spaun and Justin Rose are set to play, too.
Here’s everything you for the Farmers Insurance Open, including the $9.6 million purse that is up for grabs this week.
