Mulroney joined the series in 2024, at the start of its 13th season, after actor Eamonn Walker, who had played Battalion Chief Wallace Boden on the show since it debuted in 2012, left as a series regular.
The long-running series — part of Dick Wolf's hit franchise set in the Midwestern city, which also includes Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med — features a cast including Taylor Kinney, Miranda Rae Mayo, David Eigenberg, Christian Stolte, Joe Miñoso, Hanako Greensmith, and Jocelyn Hudon.

This season, actor Brandon Larracuente also portrays Sal Vasquez, a new firefighter in Firehouse 51.
Mulroney has had a lengthy career, earning his first professional acting credits in the '80s, with roles on TV specials and in the movie Young Guns. He's gone on to appear in projects such as My Best Friend's Wedding, Arrested Development, The Family Stone, and The Righteous Gemstones.
Even with his job on Chicago Fire, he's continued to appear in other things, such as last year's Netflix show The Hunting Wives.
He's also raved about his colleagues on the drama about first responders.
He called working with them a "Christmas gift all year round" at a PEOPLE event in December. "I literally joined a family there in Firehouse 51."
Mulroney explained, "It's an incredible group of people, and we know deep into their past, these characters. So me even joining this cast, to see actors that have played that same part for 12 years, to see how they drop into their character, it was something I'd never witnessed."
The show has "a very different feel" in a good way, he said. "It's so seamless and just a brilliant group of actors who've lived in the skin of their characters longer than I've ever encountered in my work."
Chicago Fire airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. Central on NBC.
