Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk said he "simply can't" do ordinary errands because of security issues, invoking the example of Charlie Kirk's assassination.
Musk revealed his apprehension about doing "ordinary" tasks on a new episode of the Katie Miller Podcast, hosted by Katie Miller, wife of Trump's White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller.
"When's the last time you did something extremely ordinary, like go to Target or CVS?" Miller asked the Tesla founder.

Musk responded that he can't do anything with the "general public."
"I can't go to things where there is the general public because there's an immediate 'Can I have a selfie line?' that forms. And these days in particular, in light of Charlie Kirk's murder, there are significant security issues. It's not that I don't want to. It's that I simply can't."
Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA, an advocate for conservative politics on high school, college, and university campuses, was assassinated in September 2025.
The conservative activist was shot in the neck while speaking to a crowd at Utah Valley University.

Kirk's alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, is charged with aggravated murder and has not entered a plea. He turned himself in a day after the fatal shooting of Kirk, a close ally of President Donald Trump credited with helping galvanize young voters for the Republicans in the 2024 election.
Some viewers suggested that Musk wear a disguise so he can go out in public.
"Ridiculous take. Disguises are easy. Celebrities & spies have been using them since forever. Dumb thing for a smart man to say," an X user wrote.

"Elon, bro, you need a secret identity. Not hard to do with AI and 3D printing, is it?" Another user added.
"It reminds me of Michael Jackson! He couldn't go shopping either," another user pointed out.
Others brushed off Musk's concerns, citing that the lack of privacy comes with amassing wealth and being a public figure.
"He's not missing much by being unable to walk into a CVS... Normies would much rather be him and have this problem than him wanting to be a normie and having normie problems," a user said.
"I'm sorry. He chose this life, did he not? I can go into a CVS anytime I want, but I have to budget going to the grocery store and don't get to influence U.S. policy. We all make sacrifices," added another unsympathetic user.
