*The Family Stone* is officially getting back together for a sequel, star Dermot Mulroney has claimed in a new interview.

After writer-director Thomas Bezucha previously said he was working on a sequel to the 2005 drama in the wake of star Diane Keaton's death, Mulroney told *The Tangle* podcast (below) that most of the original cast would return for the sequel, that he's read the script, and that he even knows the title for the project that would, on his account, reunite Sarah Jessica Parker, Claire Danes, Rachel McAdams, Luke Wilson, and Craig T. Nelson.

"Everyone's up for returning. I can be on record," Mulroney said on the show. "I've read it, I can't even process yet the depth of it, especially in light of losing Diane this year. We didn't remain in touch [as] friends but she was so impactful on all of our lives in that mother part in that life-altering movie."

Mulroney said that "it wasn't until last year that [Bezucha] re-approached this storyline" after Keaton died in October 2025.

"I think he wrote it very quickly. I've read it. It's brilliant, and a lot of the actors have said yes, including Craig T. [Nelson] and everyone in between," Mulroney continued, specifically naming McAdams and Wilson.

"You won't believe how s--- went down the last 20 years for the Stones," Mulroney finished, teasing the title: "I think it's going to be entitled *The Families Stone*."

** has reached out to representatives for Bezucha, Danes, McAdams, Wilson, Nelson, Parker, and original *Family Stone* distributor 20th Century for comment.

Following Keaton's death, Bezucha opened up about the pain of the loss as he worked on new material.

"I've been haunted by the loss of Sybil for months now while I worked on it, and so this was a blow on a tender bruise already," Bezucha told CNN at the time, referencing Keaton's character, Sybil Stone, who also faced a similar fate due to a terminal illness in the film. "Mentally, I've been spending time in that house where I've been missing her for a while already."

*The Family Stone *followed a tight-knit family as they gathered for the Christmas holiday, where their matriarch (Keaton) revealed that she had terminal breast cancer.
