Check your bathroom now—hand soap has been recalled in 15 states due the possible presence of bacteria, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The soaps were initially recalled on June 29, after some were found to be potentially contaminated with bacteria, including several species of Pseudomonas and Serratia.
On Sept. 11, the FDA gave the recall the second-highest risk level, Class II, meaning the hand soap is unlikely to cause serious health consequences but may cause temporary or reversible effects.

Two of the recalled soaps were sold directly to consumers at Ingles Markets:

What You Should Do
The FDA did not provide specific instructions, but as a Class II recall, the safest option is to stop using any affected hand soap, throw it away, and request a refund from the place of purchase.
When people use contaminated soap, bacteria can enter the body through cuts and cracks in the skin and lead to infections, especially in people with weakened immune systems. The specific strains found in the recalled soap, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Serratia marcescens, can cause infections like pneumonia and urinary tract infections (UTIs).
