Joel Edgerton is sharing the two Hollywood legends he had posters of on his walls as a kid.
The actor revealed he had posters of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean, despite not having actually seen any of their films at the time.
He revealed that he watched the pair’s films later on in life.
Joel Edgerton was a fan of two Hollywood legends before he’d ever seen their films.
The actor, 52, tells Entertainment Weekly that he’s still embarrassed to this day for having posters of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean on his walls as a kid because, at the time, he hadn’t actually seen any of their work.
“Embarrassingly, I’ll admit that when I was a kid, I had posters of — and there’s a reason why this is embarrassing — James Dean and Marilyn Monroe,” Edgerton explains while visiting EW’s 2026 San Diego Comic-Con studio with his Dark Matter costar Jennifer Connelly on Friday.

“For some reason, I knew that they were like iconic characters, but I’d never watched a single movie of either of them until much later,” he confesses. “But there were posters of them on my wall.”
In his defense, Edgerton did have posters of films that he had seen hanging up on his bedroom walls, too.
“The one I remember having on my wall was posters of The Lost Boys, one of my favorite movies as a kid,” he says, referring to the 1987 vampire classic. “I had a poster of The Lost Boys. And Goonies, actually.”

While Edgerton was allowed to decorate his space, Connelly revealed that she didn’t have any posters on her walls growing up. That’s not to say, however, that she didn’t have her own celebrity obsessions.
“Depends what age we’re talking about, but when I was really young, I was super into Evel Knievel,” Connelly reveals, referencing the famous stuntman who famously attempted over 75 motorcycle jumps within his lifetime to various measures of success.
Her revelation, naturally, led Edgerton to ask, “You have a poster of Evel Knievel?”
When she denied having one, Edgerton immediately cheers, “Let’s get Jennifer a poster of Evel Knievel. Like, right now!” Well, we know what she’s getting on her birthday later this year!
