Kelsey Asbille as Monica Dutton in "Yellowstone" Season five. So far Monica Dutton is MIA in "Yellowstone" spinoff "Marshals" featuring husband Kayce (Luke Grimes).
Luke Grimes is back at Kayce Dutton, leaving the Yellowstone Ranch behind him in "Marshals."
But the Jan. 23 trailer for the CBS drama (out March 1) is notably missing Kayce's beloved "Yellowstone" wife, Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille).
More alarming, Kayce and his son, Tate (Brecken Merrill), look on devastated as a nurse puts a sheet over a body in the desolate East Camp of the Dutton Ranch, where the family resided. There are prescription bottles and a box of tissues on the table.
"My family's had this land for almost 150 years," Kayce says in the trailer voice-over. "The only thing I ever wanted was taken from me."
So, are you telling us Monica died? Noooooooooooo!
But wait, there are more clues. The trailer shows Kayce kneeling at what appears to be a grave on the land. Then Kayce jumps back into the fire with an elite group of U.S. Marshals Service to forget his problems Dutton-style. The former Navy SEAL is referred to as "Rambo in a Stetson."
Later, when asked about Dutton-vengeance, Kayce says, "Well, Yellowstone is gone, the same for most of my family. And as for vengeance, the day is still young."
Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) in "Marshal." Where's Monica?
The most telling sign of Monica's demise is in the show description, which mentions Monica Dutton exactly zero times, even when discussing Kayce's family:
"Kayce and his teammates – Pete Calvin (Logan Marshall-Green), Belle Skinner (Arielle Kebbel), Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos) and Miles Kittle (Tatanka Means) – must balance the high psychological cost of serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence with their duty to their families," the description states. "Which for Kayce includes his son Tate (Brecken Merrill) and his confidantes Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) and Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) from the Broken Rock reservation."
When does 'Marshals' premiere?
"Marshals' premieres with a two-hour special on March 1 (8 ET/PT) on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
