Madonna and Julia Garner recreated the "Like a Virgin" music video in a new Instagram post
Garner has been attached to star in a long-delayed Madonna biopic, which the singer has teased since 2022
The pair are in Venice, Italy shooting season 2 of The Studio
Madonna and Julia Garner made it through the wilderness and all the way to Venice, Italy!
The pop superstar, 67, and the Weapons actress, 32, took a gondola ride together in the canals of Venice while lip-syncing along to Madonna’s 1984 hit “Like a Virgin” in a scene that recreated the song’s music video.
“Like A Virgin……again and again. 🇮🇹,” Madonna captioned the post, which she and Garner shared to Instagram on Monday, March 23.
In the clip, the pair — who are in town shooting season 2 of Apple TV’s The Studio — sing along to the song’s chorus while holding onto large hats as a gondolier rows them along. The scene echoes that of the “Like a Virgin” music video, which features Madonna roaming around Venice.
Garner has been attached to star in a long-delayed biopic about Madonna since at least 2022.
The Grammy winner previously teased her return to acting on March 17, when she shared a photo to her Instagram Stories of a script with the caption “The Italian Job.”
She was later photographed on the set of The Studio, which is currently filming its second season, and she and Garner were spotted shooting scenes together in images posted by DeuxMoi.
The show, starring Seth Rogen as head of a fictional Hollywood studio under pressure, premiered in March 2025 and won big at the Emmy Awards in September, taking home a record-breaking 13 awards, including for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Meanwhile, Garner taking on the role of Madonna in a project has been gestating for years. A source told PEOPLE in 2022 that the actress was Madonna’s top choice to play her, and while the movie stalled, the two were seen out and about at various events.
In July 2024, Madonna teased the project’s script, tentatively titled Who’s That Girl.
This past July, Garner said the film is “supposed to still happen” while on the SmartLess podcast.
“I’m such a fan of Madonna’s. I grew up listening to Madonna,” she said. “I knew that they were doing a project making a movie about it and then… I kind of just wanted to see if I could do it. ‘Cause i wasn’t a trained dancer and then I had to learn how to dance and dance in front of her and convince her that I can dance, basically, and sing, and sing with her.”
Garner said that channeling the star herself helped put her in the right mindset to tackle an audition.
“I kind of just thought, ‘What would Madonna do?’ Which is, convince you that she deserved to be in this room,” she said. “And I owned it.”
As for the delay, Garner added that “anything that’s great… I feel like it takes a long time.”
