NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson makes history with ultimate honor

Jimmie Johnson has become the first motorsports competitor to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as the NASCAR star has been recognized for his stunning career.

Johnson, 50, is widely considered one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history. He is still competing part-time after his full-time retirement in 2020, but will officially end his racing career after the 2027 Daytona 500 and step into the TNT Sports booth.

While Johnson and fellow legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. have disagreed over NASCAR's four-driver Mount Rushmore, it's clear that the former would be a contender. Following his stunning racing career and off-track work, he is now immortalized alongside some of the biggest names.

Johnson has a decorated resume after winning seven Cup Series championships and 83 races in NASCAR's top division throughout his career. He also became the first driver to win five consecutive Cup Series titles.

It was no surprise that Johnson was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame on the first ballot, but he's also branched out away from the track. Johnson is now the co-owner of Legacy Motor Club and has entered broadcasting, offering his expert takes on NASCAR.

Johnson is also an entrepreneur and philanthropist, and plans to devote more time and energy to other ventures once he officially retires from all forms of racing. While Johnson is a motorsports legend, his inclusion in the Walk of Fame is significant.

"To receive this honor is incredibly humbling," Johnson said. "As a kid growing up in Southern California, Hollywood always represented a place where dreams became reality.

"I never imagined my path would lead through racing, much less to something like this. I'm grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey, my family, teammates, partners, competitors, fans, and friends. This recognition reflects all of us."

While Johnson felt humbled by his inclusion, and the honor was unprecedented in motorsports, Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said that his career made him an obvious choice. Johnson's star also features a steering wheel under his name, the first of its kind on the Walk of Fame.

"Jimmie Johnson's remarkable career has been defined by speed, determination, and excellence at the highest level of motorsports," Martinez said.

"As both a champion racecar driver and as an expert broadcaster in this field, his incredible achievements have inspired racing fans around the world, and we are proud to honor his enduring legacy with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

"Jimmie's star is a fitting tribute to a true champion whose impact extends far beyond the finish line."
