Week 1 hits full stride today. Thirteen games fill the Sunday slate, led by an eight-game window at 1 p.m. ET that includes the Chicago Bears at the Carolina Panthers, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Cincinnati Bengals, and the New Orleans Saints at the Detroit Lions, followed by four more games in the afternoon window.
Sunday Night Football closes the day with the Dallas Cowboys at the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, a matchup that has opened the season between these two teams for the 13th time in franchise history, arriving this year with two rebuilt rosters, a new coaching staff in New York and an overhauled defensive staff in Dallas.

Key Matchups To Look For On First SNF Of The Season
Dallas overhauled its defense after finishing as the league’s worst unit in 2025, allowing 30.1 points per game. Owner Jerry Jones and head coach Brian Schottenheimer fired defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus after one season and hired Christian Parker away from Philadelphia’s staff.
Nearly half of the snaps from last year’s Cowboys defense belong to players no longer on the roster, who have been replaced by additions such as edge rusher Rashan Gary, Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller, and rookies Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence.
Downs, a first-round safety who fell to Dallas at pick 11 after the Giants took offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa one spot earlier, has drawn heavy praise in camp.

Schottenheimer has called his intelligence and versatility elite, saying Downs can line up anywhere on the back end, including matching up on CeeDee Lamb in the slot, and Lamb has credited the rookie with sharpening his own game through their camp battles.
On the other sideline, John Harbaugh will oversee his first regular-season game as Giants head coach, the franchise’s first Super Bowl-winning hire since Tom Coughlin’s final season in 2015.
Harbaugh brought over several familiar faces from Baltimore, including fullback Patrick Ricard and tight end Isaiah Likely, while drafting linebacker Arvell Reese fifth overall and Mauigoa 10th.
The biggest lingering question is whether Giants receiver Malik Nabers, who tore his ACL last season, plays at all. He practiced fully all week but remains officially questionable, and his workload, or absence, will likely decide how competitive the night stays.
Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott has historically dominated this series, going 14-3 as a starter against New York. That stretch included a 14-game winning streak against the Giants, which was snapped only by a Week 18 loss that closed out last season.
