A source tells PEOPLE rumors of tension in Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's marriage are "complete nonsense"

The couple recently appeared together at a London birthday party, presenting a united front despite speculation

The rumors come amid the recent scandals surrounding Beatrice's parents, the former Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson

A source is debunking speculation of any tension in Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's marriage.

On March 22, The Mail on Sunday reported that there was a "distance" between the couple amid recent scandals linking her parents, the former Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, to Jeffrey Epstein.

However, a source close to the couple exclusively tells PEOPLE that any rumors about marriage trouble between Beatrice, 37, and Edo, 42, are "complete nonsense."

Princess Beatrice and Edo stepped out together to attend a birthday party at Eel Sushi in London's Notting Hill neighborhood on Friday, March 20, as seen in photographs published by the Daily Mail.

It's been a tumultuous few months for Beatrice's parents, the former Duke and Duchess of York, who both appear in the U.S. Department of Justice's Jan. 30 release of files related to the investigation into Epstein. Though being named does not connote wrongdoing and neither have been accused of any wrongdoing or charged in connection with the release of the Epstein files.

Ferguson's correspondence with Epstein, unveiled by the DOJ, has been intensely scrutinized. The emails suggested that the former Duchess of York discussed plans to bring her daughters to lunch with the convicted sex offender following his release from a Florida prison in 2009 and voiced a wish to work as his "House Assistant" a year later, saying she "desperately" needed the money, among other troubling exchanges.

On Feb 19, a complaint relating to information about Andrew, 66, led to his historic arrest as authorities investigate a claim that he shared confidential information with Epstein when he served as trade envoy to the U.K.

Against that backdrop, the Mail on Sunday claimed that the turmoil was driving a wedge between Princess Beatrice and her Italian property developer husband, whom she wed in 2020. The outlet alleged that while Beatrice has quietly been supporting her parents during this time, Edo has been locked in on work.

"Things haven’t been great for a while between them, but Beatrice has been determined to soldier on and forge a path through," a source told the Daily Mail. "Beatrice is quite different from her sister [Princess Eugenie]. She really wants to almost naively see the good in people and will turn a blind eye to uncomfortable truths — that is why she was blind to her father’s behaviour, and the same is true of her belief in Edo."

"She wants to stay together, but he seems more and more distracted by work and travel. Just when she needs him most, he’s been pulling away," they said.

In early February, days after the DOJ's Epstein file release, Edo was pictured in an Instagram video from his Banda Property, recapping a trip to Miami and Palm Beach in Florida as negative headlines about his in-laws dominated the news cycle.

"He’s really worried his in-laws will affect his business. Banda has been taking off lately, and he’s found some great investors among the wealthy Cotswolds set, but it’s taking up a lot of his time and energy," a source told the Mail. "He’s all about himself at the moment. You have to feel for Beatrice."

"There’s been distance between them with his much-increased work travel lately, which he has been posting out [on social media] heavily in a way he didn’t before," added someone else who knows the couple.

Edo is descended from Italian nobility and, as the eldest son of Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, will one day inherit his family's ancestral seat, the 18th-century Villa Mapelli Mozzi palazzo in northern Italy. He was born in the U.K. and started Banda, a property development and interior design company, in his early 20s.

In the wake of Andrew's arrest, a source told PEOPLE that his daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, were keeping their focus on their own young families. The sisters are both mothers to young children — Beatrice is a mother to daughters Sienna, 4, and Athena, 1, and stepmother to Edo's son Christopher Woolf, who is known as "Wolfie," 9 — and friends said both princesses have been lying low.

"They’re like a locked ship right now," a friend recently told PEOPLE in an exclusive cover story.

"They are tarnished by this. It has affected their lives a great deal," added royal author Ingrid Seward about the scandals around Andrew.

Dara Huang, the mother of Wolfie, has also made headlines recently after briefly appearing on the Bravo reality series Ladies of London: The New Reign. The American architect left the show after she was accused on air of speaking negatively behind her longtime friend and fellow cast member Myka Meier's back and faced rumors during the same episode of being a "madam." When the group brought up the "madam" rumor at a dinner on the show, Huang said, “I’m an architect. I run two businesses. Let’s just have an amazing dinner and just move on.”

Huang then appeared to quit the show, telling the group, "I think I need to probably step out of, I think, being on this TV show. I'm really sorry to disappoint everybody, but I just — I don't think this is for me, you know? This is not for me."

During a post-premiere appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Meier was asked if Huang's proximity to the British royal family had to do with why she left Ladies of London.

"No, I think it had nothing to do with it," Myka shared, attributing Huang’s exit to rumors she was talking about Myka behind her back. "I think people saw the real her. I think she got caught in a really bad lie, and there was no way out of it — and she realized that. It was like a trapped animal, and they panic. And then she quit."

Huang previously opened up about coparenting her son with Princess Beatrice in a 2024 interview with Harper's Bazaar U.K.

"Wolfie has had two sets of parents trying to help him on both sides, and I just think, 'The more, the merrier,' " she said. "I feel lucky to have such positive people around him, who really embrace him — because it didn’t have to be so easy."

"It's all about your point of view," she added. "I don't understand people who are divorced and then hold their children as collateral; that doesn't make any sense. It’s about creating a happy home and lifestyle."
