Rams rival reacts to blockbuster Myles Garrett trade

Now that the Los Angeles Rams have finalized their blockbuster trade for Myles Garrett, opposing offenses in the NFC West are already bracing for impact. Appearing on The Rich Eisen Show, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle gave a divisional rival's perspective on exactly how teams will have to alter their game plans to handle the elite edge rusher.

According to Kittle, Garrett is bound to command the same defensive anxiety that retired Rams legend Aaron Donald inflicted on the league for a decade.

"He's probably going to get the Aaron Donald treatment from like all the NFC that we all had to do for so long with Aaron," Kittle explained. "And just say you make a game plan around him and make the rest of the team beat you. Just don't let the best defensive player in the league beat you on every single snap."

Despite how much it will affect the 49ers' game plan against the Rams throughout the year, Kittle noted that he's excited to face off against arguably the best defensive player in the NFL right now, following his second Defensive Player of the Year award in three seasons.

"So it's going to be a huge challenge," Kittle added. "And I love a great challenge. It's going to be really fun."

The Garrett deal gives L.A. perhaps the best one-two pass-rush punch in the league between the ex-Browns star and Byron Young, who had 12 sacks in 2025. With Chris Shula running the defense once more and a loaded secondary with new pieces like Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, stopping Garrett might not be enough to hold back the Rams in 2026.

Now, imagine if the Donald unretires from the league? ESPN's Adam Schefter believes that idea is "more likely than not," when means teams would have to potentially block Garrett and Donald on any given play. That idea does scare Kittle.

"Hey," Kittle said, "let's not joke about stuff like that."
