Karen Leigh Baldwin, the daughter of late Brady Bunch actor Robert Reed, has died at age 69. Baldwin’s brother John Bergquist confirmed the news to The Chicago Tribune in January 2026, nearly two months after Baldwin’s death. No cause of death was given.

Baldwin, an accomplished horse trainer and teacher, was the only child of Reed and his former wife, Marilyn Bergquist, and “was not particularly close” with her father, but maintained a long-distance relationship and was on good terms with him before his death in 1992, her brother said.

Baldwin’s online obituary mentioned her mother, four siblings, and her son William Baldwin, who was described as “the greatest joy of her life.” Baldwin’s famous father was not referenced in her obituary.

Karen Baldwin Appeared in a Popular ‘Brady Bunch’ Episode

As a child, Baldwin appeared in The Brady Bunch episode “The Slumber Caper,” which originally aired on Oct. 9, 1970. In the episode, eldest Brady daughter, Marcia (Maureen McCormick) hosted a slumber party for her friends. Baldwin, credited as Karen Reitz/Carolyn Reed, played Marcia’s friend Karen.

Florence Henderson’s daughter Barbara Bernstein also appeared in the episode as another party guest, Ruthie, and Hope Schwartz (daughter of Brady Bunch creator Sherwood Schwartz) played Jenny.

In an interview posted by Brady World, Schwartz’s daughter recalled how the real-life children of the Brady parents were asked to appear in the episode. “I believe that for ‘The Slumber Caper’ they wanted me, along with Barbara and Karen, all in the same show as a publicity angle,” she said. “The ‘real’ kids, sort of thing.”

Co-star Barry Williams told The Chicago Tribune that the shoot was the first time he met Reed’s daughter, and that "Robert was excited to have her there and not just bring her in as a guest, but as a ‘guest star.’”

While they had a distant relationship, Baldwin’s Facebook page features a photo of Reed and her bio proudly reads, “ROBERT REED is my FATHER.”

When Reed died in 1992 at age 59, it was Baldwin who confirmed his death to the media, per The Los Angeles Times.
