The sunken tugboat that was stuck in Presque Isle Bay for months has been successfully pulled up and is now home at the Great Lakes Shipyard in Cleveland.
On May 10, the G Tug Hawaii, which sat at the bottom of Presque Isle Bay since late December, was transported back to Cleveland after being pulled from the bottom of the bay on May 9.

Crews with Great Lake Towing were on the scene in Erie since May 5 assembling excavation equipment, assessing the scene, connecting the tugboat to the 272-foot crane and pulling the boat from the water.
The timeline was delayed after the boat slipped from a crane attachment and fell back into the water.

What’s next for the G Tug Hawaii?
A spokesperson for Great Lakes Towing confirmed on May 11 that the G Tug Hawaii safely made its way back to Cleveland.
Crews at Great Lakes Towing were assessing the damage, determining the repairs needed and the costs, according to the Great Lakes Towing spokesperson.

The spokesperson was unsure if the boat would return to operation after repairs or be retired. It was undetermined if a replacement tugboat would be sent to Erie.
