George Clooney has appeared in over 50 films since he started acting in the late 1970s
Though he won an Academy Award for his performance in the 2006 film Syriana, the political thriller isn't one of his highest-rated films
While promoting his 2025 movie Jay Kelly, Clooney joked about one of his lowest-rated films he made in the 1980s with Laura Dern
George Clooney is one of the most beloved actors in the world, and some of his works are as legendary as he is.
The longtime actor began working in Hollywood in the late 1970s and slowly rose to fame following his role in ER. He noted to Vanity Fair in August 2025 that he didn't find success in the entertainment industry until his mid-30s.
“I’ve been the beneficiary of having my career not be massively successful in lots of different directions,” Clooney explained in an interview promoting his film Jay Kelly. “I didn’t really get successful, in the kind of success that can be blinding, until I was 33 years old. I’d been working for 12 years at that point."
Those early years of his career gave cinema some of his best — and toughest — roles. Read on to see which of George Clooney's movies are his highest-rated and which are his lowest, based on critics' scores on Rotten Tomatoes.
Highest Rated Movies3. Fantastic Mr. Fox

Wes Anderson's quirky animated tale about a fox who breaks a decade-long promise to his wife not to raid their neighbor's farms was rated 93% on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer. Clooney voiced the starring fox in the 2009 film alongside Meryl Streep and Bill Murray.
In a December 2025 interview with ScreenRant, the actor described filming Fantastic Mr. Fox as "a beautiful experience" and pointed out that the cast didn't record voiceovers in a studio, but on a real-life farm. Clooney added that it was "so exciting to do because it was done in such an unorthodox way."
2. Three Kings

Clooney's 1999 dark comedy, Three Kings, received a 94% rating for its thoughtful blend of action, drama and humor, featuring a star-studded cast. Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube and Spike Jonze joined Clooney as four soldiers on a mission to steal hidden gold.
Though Clooney called Three Kings "a really good film," the actor famously did not get along with director David O. Russell, calling him a "miserable f---" in an August 2024 interview with GQ.
“It’s not worth it," he said, referring to how much time it takes to make a movie with someone he doesn't jive with. "Not at this point in my life. Just to have a good product.”
1. Gravity

In 2013, Clooney ventured into the unknown with Sandra Bullock for the heart-pumping survival drama Gravity. The movie took home several Academy Awards and earned a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its thrilling story about two astronauts who become stranded in outer space during a routine mission.
The actor told USA Today at the time that Gravity was "a very odd" movie to categorize. "Two people in space," he said. "No monsters. It's more like 2001: A Space Odyssey than an action film."
Lowest Rated Movies3. Batman & Robin

Though there are a lot of debates on the best Batman, most people agree that Clooney may not be a contender — including the actor himself. "I did one superhero movie and I f––ed it up so bad they won't let me near the set," he joked during an October 2021 Q&A session.
The 1997 film (which earned an 11% on Rotten Tomatoes) had a lot working against it in Clooney's opinion, including a certain costume faux pas that Clooney warned his pal and fellow Batman Ben Affleck about when he was taking on the role.
"I can only impart my wisdom from my experience, and I just said, 'Don't have nipples on the suit,' " he said during a December 2020 interview on The Howard Stern Show, noting that he thinks the film is "so bad, it actually hurts."
2. Grizzly II. Revenge

In 1983, a relatively unknown Clooney appeared in a low-budget horror film with Laura Dern. Grizzly II. Revenge follows a team of park rangers who work to stop a gigantic, violent bear from crashing an outdoor rock concert.
"It was shot by a Hungarian crew in Communist Budapest in 1984," Clooney quipped during an October 2025 Q&A. "And it was a terrible movie ... But they ran out of money and we got stuck in Budapest for a couple of months.”
Though the actor said the movie was never released, Grizzly II. Revenge was eventually finished in 2020 and picked up by Netflix.
1. Return of the Killer Tomatoes

The only thing that may be worse than a killer bear is a strand of violent tomatoes. Yes, you read that correctly, four years after getting mauled by a homicidal bear, Clooney was cast in 1988's Return of the Killer Tomatoes — a parody sequel to the 1977 cult classic — as a pizza boy who fights to stop an army of violent vegetables.
Despite the 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Clooney has a lot of love for his lowest-rated film. "My most underappreciated [movie] would be Return of the Killer Tomatoes," he told Yahoo in October 2022. "On Rotten Tomatoes ... I have two films that are considered the worst film ever made, and I'm in them."
Clooney smiled and added, "Honestly, I'm proud of it."
