Yes, Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show is still happening

Sorry, Bad Bunny haters: The show will go on.

The three-time Grammy-winning rapper, 31, is all set to take the stage as the headliner during this year's Apple Music Super Bowl halftime show after the NFL faced calls last year to replace him with another artist on the world's biggest stage.

In October, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed the league was not reconsidering picking the "DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS" artist to perform at the Big Game after receiving divisive reactions over the choice from President Donald Trump and others.

"I'm not sure we've ever selected an artist where we didn't have some blowback or criticism," Goodell said, according to The . "It's pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching."

But Goodell noted Bad Bunny, who will become the first Latin artist to headline the Super Bowl halftime show solo, is "one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world." (Bad Bunny previously took the halftime stage alongside Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, co-headlining in 2020.)

Goodell added, "That's what we try to achieve. It's an important stage for us. It's an important element to the entertainment value, and it's carefully thought through," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Trump previously told Newsmax he had "never heard of" Bad Bunny and argued picking him to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show was "crazy" and "absolutely ridiculous."

Bad Bunny, who was Spotify's most-streamed artist globally in 2025, has been critical of the Trump administration in the past, and in September, he told I-D magazine that he would not perform shows in the United States as part of his Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour over concerns "ICE could be outside [my concert]," which is "something that we were talking about and very concerned about."

Bad Bunny Super Bowl halftime show sparks backlash, petition

In October, a Change.org petition that received more than 100,000 signatures called for George Strait to replace Bad Bunny, arguing the Super Bowl halftime show "should unite our country, honor American culture, and remain family-friendly, not be turned into a political stunt."

Turning Point USA, the organization cofounded by late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, also previously announced it would produce "The All-American Halftime Show" as counterprogramming to Bad Bunny's performance. On a serious note, Bad Bunny said on "SNL" he was "very excited to be doing the Super Bowl," and "people all around the world who love my music are also happy." He then delivered a message in Spanish, which translated to, "All Latinos and Latinas around the world and here in the United States, all the people who have worked to open doors — more than just my achievement, it's everyone's achievement, proving that no one can ever erase our mark and our contribution to this country."

Switching back to English, he concluded, "If you didn't understand what I just said, you have four months to learn."
